I love this blender!Dec 27, 2010
By A. Guilmain
"the mama in red"
I love my frozen margaritas made for a crowd, and I burn through blenders. But since they are all built relatively similar, I refuse to spend a boatload of money on them. I decided to purchase this one, for quite a few reasons:
1. I do not need 10/12/16 speeds on a blender. I need it to blend and have the ability to pulse. 2. I need a blender powerful enough to go through smoothies, frozen drinks, hot soups and sauces, as well as things like homemade peanut butter. 3. I wanted a glass jar. 4. I have learned that Black & Decker gears break often and aren't worth replacing, so I wanted a different gear. I wanted to spend $50 or under.
This blender won. The plus? I LOVE Red (can you tell?) My kitchen is green and white, with all white appliances, and I love that this is red. So here's my thoughts, I've owned it for about three months:
1. This thing works beautifully on frozen items. Margaritas don't have big chunks. There's six rotating blades as opposed to four on most units, and it works. 2. This thing is POWERFUL. The gears move really fast from the start, there's no need for long blending times. 3. This is durable. I don't get that burning smell when it's done. I'm telling you, this thing has some power.
The negatives: This is so powerful that I have a hard time with blending hot sauces and soups. Like I said, it rotates so fast that the pressure builds really fast. Twice it has blown the lid off and my butternut squash soup has gone all over myself and the kitchen. So if you're going to blend something hot from the dutch oven, only blend about a cup at a time, pulse it, and make sure you have a good grip on the lid. Make sure you open the valve at the top to release pressure before you pulse it a second time. If you have an immersion blender, I would recommend using that instead, as it's easy to misjudge what will happen with this--like I said, I've done it twice. Other than that, there's nothing I would change. This has to be the best possible blender in the price range. Overlook the fact that it doesn't have a zillion buttons and features on it, you never use those anyhow.

Would you like some grease with your smoothie?May 14, 2010
By Isabelle Green There are plenty of other good options out there for blenders at this price point. The only reason I bought this one was because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated some time ago. But from the beginning, it was a really loud blender, and didn't cut through chunks of frozen fruit and ice smoothly like they said it would. We still endured it, until last week I tried to grind some rice for my infant son's cereal. Now, you might say, "Well. Of course it's not supposed to grind rice" but actually most blenders do this task just fine. Our previous blender, a flimsy little Oster w/a plastic jar, had no problem with the two minute grind. But the Kalorik started to smell within a minute or so, and when I looked at the rice, it had flecks of grease in it - the grease had pushed up from beneath the motor through the blade attachment and was all over the base of the blade. Gross, and even though it still runs, I am afraid to use it anymore for any of our drinks or blending task. Bummer. It really does look nice, but that's about all it is, plus a wasted $50.

I purchased this item because it was rated among the best blenders by America's Best Kitchen. Very good quality and excellent blending properties. Would purchase again.

self destructed after a yearNov 08, 2011
By kyle filomeo I bought this unit, like many others, on the recommendation from Cooks Illustrated. It was a fabulous blender for about a year. Then I noticed some juice leaking out the bottom bearing after any blend session more than a minute. Then last week, it stated making some weird noises and about 3 seconds later, it threw itself off my counter in a fit of exaltation. The bearing exploded, destroying the plastic coupler on the container side, and then chewed the rubber couler on the base unit apart. For under $40 a year, I'd still say this was a decent deal, but I'm now deciding if I buy a vitamix for 10 years of use, or another Kalorik. If I do go with the Kalorik, I just hope that when it explodes next year, it contains something easy to clean off of everything...

Beauty is only skin deepApr 29, 2012
By Pen Name I bought this blender in hopes that it would outlast my previous blenders. Yes, like all the other reviewers I was attracted to the gorgeous red color, the glass jar, and the strong stainless steel blades. I make smoothies daily, wait *made*, until it started to leak. I thought that perhaps I just didn't tighten the seal enough. Then I noticed a burning smell. I thought maybe I had just pushed it too hard and stopped crushing ice. One day all I had blended was a banana, 4 fresh strawberries, and milk. I poured my smoothie and began to drink it, till low and behold I taste something metal in my mouth. Apparently a metal ring that is used in the blade assembly came apart, and was nearly swallowed! Now its still a gorgeous red useless blender. I have attempted to purchase a replacement blade once on the website, but it was under construction. I took it as a sign and have now purchased The Bigg Boss. So if you are like the rest of us and like shiny, beautiful worthless crap sitting on your counter tops this is the blender for you. P. S. You may get lucky like the other reviewers I seem to be envious of. The 3 stars are for looks and for the 6 months it worked.
